St. Peter looks back on its almost 1000-year history. The most famous building is the Benedictine monastery which was built in 1093 by Bertold II. The monastery was a priestly seminary of the Archdiocese of Freiburg from 1842 to 2006. Since 2006, the priestly seminary is now a spiritual center of the Archdiocese of Freiburg, where many seminars and lectures take place.
The Fürstensaal (Hall) and the Rococo Library, are well known and very worth seeing.
In the baroque church with its impressive altar many international organ concerts are held.
